The objective of the AtGentive project is to investigate the use of artificial agents for supporting the management of the attention of young or adult learners in the context of individual and collaborative learning environments.
Practically, this project consists in the design of artificial agents that are able to coach the learners in reaching higher level of performance in managing their attention in the learning process. These agents, which appear as embedded characters, are able to profile the state of the attention of the learners (short or long term) by observing their actions, to assess, to analyse and to reason on these states of attention, and to provide some proactive coaching (assessment, guidance, stimulation, etc.).
These attentive agents will be designed and delivered as part of two different learning infrastructure/contexts:
The result of this project will be validated with two pilot sites:
- A school pilot: this pilot will help to orient, test and validate the design of the AtGentSchool platform & solution.
- A learning network of managers from SMEs: this pilot will help to orient, test and validate the design of the AtGentNet platform & solution.
AtGentive is coordinated by INSEAD’s Centre for Advanced Learning Technologies (CALT), in collaboration with academic partners such as the American University of Paris from France, Oxford Brookes University from UK, the Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction (TAUCHI) from the University of Tampere, from Finland, complemented by partners (SMEs) providing design and technical know-how such as OntDekNet from Netherland and Cantoche Production from France, and organizations providing access to an extensive group of users both in school context with the Czech E-Learning Network, and in a working context (SMEs) with the Swedish Trade Council.
